Employee Assistance Programme
An Employee Assistance Programme (or EAP for short) is an employee benefit designed to offer support to staff on both professional and personal issues.
Working within the animal welfare industry can be very rewarding, but it can also take its toll on the individual. It’s not uncommon to see those in the community struggling with stress, anxiety, compassion fatigue as well as financial difficulties, medical problems or legal matters.
This is why it’s key that those within the industry can access the emotional support they need at any time. For that reason, we have included an EAP within our VetPerks employee benefits package.
VetPerks Employee Assistance Programme
VetPerks members have access to a 24/7, 365 days-a-year support helpline to get practical and emotional support for any issue they’re facing at home or in their work life before it gets overwhelming.
Members can get assistance and advice on a range of issues such as:
- Emotional problems
- Relationship difficulties
- Family difficulties
- Medical matters
- Legal advice
How does it work if I need help?
First things first, make the phone call. You’ll have a conversation with a telephone counsellor who will then identify the nature of assistance required.
All calls are then transferred to an appropriate specialist for legal, financial, medical or counselling support depending on your problem.
They will then carry out an in-depth assessment of you and the problem at hand and a referral is made within 24 hours to full telephone counselling.
You’ll receive ongoing support from a case manager, who will continue to assess the situation until it’s resolved.
There is also an online portal which gives members access to information on a range of topics, including several resources for managers dealing with common workplace issues.
